Equipping

EQUIPPING THE SAINTS FOR THE WORK OF MINISTRY

God gives leaders to the church "to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ" (Eph. 4:12). We offer educational opportunities—from seminars to residencies—to help you grow in biblical knowledge and practical ministry skills.Whether you're a new believer learning the basics of faith or a mature Christian pursuing deeper theological knowledge and vocational ministry preparation, our goal is to see every member of the body of Christ fully equipped and actively engaged in ministry—from their kitchen tables to their workplaces, and everywhere in between.

Internships

Equipping future church leaders

Our internship program offers education and ministry experience through a structured 16-week semester, with new terms beginning in January, May, and September.

Through our internships, we aim to equip believers to faithfully serve God in the local church. We focus on two main objectives: understanding and experiencing church ministry. Interns engage with study materials and observe various ministry areas to understand what makes a healthy church and discover their role within it.

Our internship program is designed for individuals discerning if pastoral ministry is in their future, those with a desire to work in church ministry but uncertain of their direction, and anyone seeking experience in church ministry.

What to Expect

  • 10 hours per week commitment
  • Study curriculum with reading and written assignments
  • Participation in staff meetings and church services
  • Observation of various ministry areas
  • One-on-one meetings with church leaders
  • Some administrative and practical duties

Residencies

Training men for pastoral ministry

Our Pastoral Residency is a two-year, full-time training program designed to equip men for pastoral ministry. Through hands-on experience and mentorship, residents learn the essential responsibilities of pastoral ministry including preaching, pastoral care, church leadership, and setting a godly example for the congregation.

During the program, residents earn their Master's degree through Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (MBTS). The program combines theological education with practical ministry experience, all within the context of our local church. Our goal is to prepare faithful pastors who will serve God's church through planting, revitalization, or other local church ministry.

Ideal candidates for this program are men who sense that full-time pastoral ministry is in their future. Candidates should have either completed their undergraduate degree or be within two semesters of completion. Most importantly, they should demonstrate a genuine aspiration to the office of elder, actively pursuing both the calling and biblical qualifications outlined in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.

What to Expect

  • Pastoral development through mentoring and practical experience
  • Theological education through MBTS
  • Opportunities to lead and shepherd in various ministries of the church
  • Regular participation in pastoral care, elder meetings, teaching and preaching, and shadowing the elders of the church
  • Full-time position
  • Base salary provided with training in supplementary support-raising through Converge Heartland
